EdTech ยท Designer + Builder

An EdTech designer who builds.

An EdTech designer-builder is one person who designs and builds learning products: discovery, UX, interface and the working code, from first idea to a tested MVP. No handoff, no translation layer, and pedagogy respected from the first sketch.

I'm Itamar Katan. From 2022 to 2026 I was Product Designer & AI Builder at MindCET, Israel's EdTech innovation center. Since July 2026 I do the same work freelance, for founders, schools and education teams.

Nothing lost in handoff

The design in my head is the product you get. States, timing and edge cases included.

Learning-first judgment

Designed for how people actually learn: pacing, feedback, mistakes, and users who can't read yet.

How a project runs

From idea to tested product, one pair of hands.

  1. 01Discover. Conversations, sketches, the real problem.
  2. 02Prototype. Something working in days, in code.
  3. 03Test. Real learners, real sessions, honest feedback.
  4. 04Build the MVP. The smallest version that proves the bet, shipped.

Questions people ask

EdTech designer-builder, clearly.

What is an EdTech designer-builder?

An EdTech designer-builder is one person who designs and builds learning products: discovery, UX, interface design and the working code. Instead of a design file handed to a developer, the same person takes the product from first idea to a tested, working MVP, with pedagogy and age-appropriate interaction baked in.

Why hire one person instead of a designer and a developer?

For a 0 to 1 learning product, speed and nothing-lost-in-handoff matter most. Prototypes are real software, testing with real learners happens in days, and every iteration lands in the artifact that becomes the product.

What makes EdTech different from other product design?

A learning product is judged by whether someone actually learns. That changes pacing, feedback, difficulty and how mistakes are treated, and it means the real users, kids or teachers, are often not the people paying for the product.

What has Itamar Katan built in EdTech?

Four years at MindCET, Israel's EdTech innovation center: products for mobile, web and iPad, including Chameleon.AI. Plus STAGA's student-driven music platform, the Hachi Eitan game for Hop! Channel with 500+ AI-consistent illustrations, and Sprint Lab, a curiosity-led science course.

How fast can we get to something testable?

A clickable prototype in days. A small MVP in weeks, when scope stays honest. The fastest end-to-end was 24 hours, from idea to a tested voice-feature prototype.

Is Itamar available for EdTech projects?

Yes. Freelance since July 2026, working remotely in Hebrew and English with founders, schools and education teams, from discovery to a working MVP. Fastest contact is WhatsApp or email.
